Crash

As I mentioned previously in a blog entry, I have been editing some photos. They are from the Evans Photograpy archives and are all auto crash photos from 1959 to 1976. Here’s a sample. Do you find it compelling?

I remember George always responding to emergencies. I guess his Dad did, too

Brian has some 5000 negs to look at. Pop (GJE's dad) had a police scanner in his car - courtesy of the State police. They and the local police depts called him out on all their accident scenes before digital and in house photography. George followed in his footsteps even before Pop died. I have negs of George in accident photos and Pop in accident photos. I think they both responded and therefore captured the other at the scene.
I just finished cataloging miscellaneous news photos Pop took for the local and State newspapers from 1954 - 1979, Cock fights, drug raids, fires, etc among other more mundane photos. They both had interesting things - both bad and good - to cover. Lots of Freehold life is captured on the 300,000 negs I have. Mary

I have vivid memories of Airstream trailer accidents from our summer cross country vacations. I don't recall any in NJ, but if you find a photo, let me know. Maybe it'll put my mind at rest. Why is that pre-teen memory sticking with me????

Ah, police photos. My Dad used to be an ID man for the state police and every once in a while, his crime scene photos would get in with the family photos (probably because he was getting them developed at the same time). Your photo reminds me of those driver's ed films they made us watch in highschool!
