Florida

Well, a little break from the cold was just what the doctor ordered (that is, if I was the doctor)! Rob and I spent three warm days in Tampa – walking in the park, visiting the beach, taking a sunset boat ride and using the spa services at the resort – sauna, pools, hot tubs, exercise classes. We also got to spend some quality time with my father. I’m not sure why we came back…oh yeah, we have kids to take care of….almost forgot…actually I texted the kids to try to make them jealous (they had declined to come with us) but they were all about the snow, which they expected was going to be 6 to 8 inches. To their disappointment, it was only a couple plus a layer of ice.

I love the sauna – 150 degrees of “dry heat”. Only time I’ve felt warm in months! I could do that every day. Of course, if you stay in too long, you need basting! I also like the fresh fruit in Florida. It’s probably the same fruit we have here but when you eat it on the veranda in a warm breeze, it tastes fresher!

We returned in time to scrape the inch or so of ice off the car in long term parking. And after finding that both the kids and the grandparents survived each other while we were away, it’s time again to wrap ourselves in blankets against the coming cold front!

So, as for Florida, I feel as MacArthur did after leaving the Phillipines…"I shall return…"

On a side note, I set up an appointment for today with an acupuncturist. I’ve heard that acupuncture can help alleviate nausea and some of the pain for which I now take meds. I’d like to lower the level of chemistry going on in my body so perhaps this will be a good substitute. The acupuncturist also said it could help with my energy level. That would be great since it’s still pretty low – although sometimes I can make it through a day with only one 2 hour nap!

Wishing you a warm week…BB

This is the first time I have been part of a blog so I am not sure I am doing this correctly.
Most of the time when someone travels south, it becomes warm up north. At least your trip afforded you the opportunity to miss a part of winter.
I am a cousin of Robbie's mother and she was named for my mother Rose, who died of Hodgkins at 51 after being in remission for seven years. I was 14 at the time. Rose used to write plays for local groups like the PTA and the sisterhood of our temple. She would write new lyrics to well known tunes so they could be easily learned. The livingroom of our house was configured so that part of it could be used as a rehearsal hall. I wish she had had a mechanism like blogging.

Brian, you sound so upbeat and full of life. Keep up the spirit

Glad you were up for a warm getaway! You are definitely right about the city putting you in the holiday spirit! After Prudential, I've been commuting on NJ Transit from Convent Station to Penn Station for a few years now. I really enjoy my daily walk right up 7th Ave to my Ernst & Young office at Times Square. A little birdie told me ya went to George & Martha's. I'll have to check out Cutter's replacement! Both my uncle and cousin are very happy with the care they have been receiving or have received at MSK with their own cancer battles so hang tough and keep blogging! Say hi to Robbie, Walt and Pat! I had typed this yesterday and then found out I needed to create a blog account first with google! I did that today at lunch it took me about 7 passwords before I could understand the jumbled password! I had saved what I wrote and now have pasted it in. Of course now since this note guess who I bumped into on the train this morning? It was Robbie! So I already said hi to her by the time you read this! She was on her way to meet you at MSK. We yakked the whole way in and probably annoyed all those wanting to sleep who were near us! I’ve been kept awake many times so I’m owed! If ya ever want to sleep until your stop set your cell phone to ring and vibrate and wake ya up! I’ve had to walk home from Morristown station twice when I missed getting off in Convent which in almost 4 years of commuting to NYC, I guess isn’t too bad!

Warmth - way to go! I can't believe you got Robbie to go!! I do think the fruit it fresher. Same fruit, just not picked last year and kept in deep cold freezer for the long trek north. During the winter, you just forget how fresh fruit tastes. It's one of the reasons I love the Garden State - the excitement of each produce season..strawberry..blueberry..corn and tomato..apples..YUM!!!

Now, to eat my Chilean Granny Smith with peanut butter (sigh)...

Welcome home..stay warm!!

Florida, warm, wow. I would not have come back! Just in time for the Alberta Clipper that is headed our way. It's amazing how important sunshine is to the soul. John and I are going to Aruba and everyday I think about the warm sun that will meet us there. Then i have to go back to reality and wind chills. Glad you had a nice trip!
